GRAND CHUTE — For the second time in the last three years, Sun Prairie will play for a baseball state championship.

The Cardinals scored five runs across the first two innings and coasted from there to defeat Burlington 6-1 in the Division 1 semifinals on Tuesday at Fox Cities Stadium.

Sun Prairie (24-7) got a complete game from Robbie Knorr on the mound to stifle the Demons' powerful bats. He scattered seven hits and allowed no earned runs.

The Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning thanks to RBI hits from Josh Caron and Bennet Halbleib.

Burlington (24-6) answered with a run in the second on a Sun Prairie error, but the Cardinals kept the pressure up in the bottom half. Caron drove in two more to make the lead 5-1.

Sun Prairie added an insurance run in the sixth on a squeeze bunt by Matt DePrey.

Sun Prairie last reached the state championship game in 2017. They lost to Kimberly that year. The Cardinals will face either Eau Claire North or Fond du Lac for the title on Thursday evening.
